Declan Meban

THIS week's Top Ten was compiled by local 17-year-old, Declan Meban.
Declan describes his musical taste as "alternative" and admits that his love for all things rock was heavily influenced by his older brother and sister.
"While Ruairi and Meghan introduced me to the likes of Greenday and Muse, I managed to branch out and develop my own taste, which is not always to their liking," Declan joked.
The AS level student added that it was difficult to pick his favourite of all time: "In the end, I had to go by how often the songs were played on the old iPod," he explained.
My Top 10
1. Can't Catch Tomorrow - Lost Prophets – I got into the Lost Prophets a few years ago and this seems to be my favourite song of theirs because it's the catchiest. However, Town Called Hypocrisy is a close second.
2. What I've done - Linkin Park – This is much more rock than their earlier works which relied heavily on rap-metal. I definitely prefer their new style and this single, off their latest album, Minutes to Midnight, is awesome.
3. My Friend's Over You - New Found Glory – This song is a funny take on a break-up from a mate's point of view. It's a ska/punk tale of why friendship is rated higher than passing flights of fancy.
4. When Your Heart Stops Beating - +44 – This is the first single from the band that bettered Blink 182. I was so angry Tom deLonge left his best mate of over 15 years to start up the inferior band Angels and Airways, leaving Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker behind who in turn forged ahead with the more grown-up sound of +44. I was really pleased when this song did well and it's in my Top Ten as a two-fingered salute to betrayal.
5. What's My Age Again - Blink 182 – Back to happier times, when these guys were at their best. This song is a funny take on growing up and why responsibility isn't always a good thing. I first got into Blink 182 when my brother, Ruairi played their albums so much, I couldn't help but get into them.
6. Smile Like You Mean It - The Killers – Bad moustache aside, Brandon Flowers has an amazing voice. This is definitely the best song of the album, Hot Fuss but Somebody Told Me ain't bad either.
7. Iris - Goo Goo Dolls – Okay, this might not be the most masculine song of all time but I like it, okay! In saying that, I don't ever want to see City of Angels again, thank you very much.
8. The Pretenders - Foo Fighters – Time after time, the Foo Fighters continue to produce music beyond everyone else's capabilities. I've chosen this song because it showcases the best of everything they've got in the 21st Century.
9. Anxiety - Black Eyed Peas featuring Papa Roach – Although this isn't the type of music I usually go for, this unusual collaboration between a hip-hop band and a metal band really works and I recommend that everyone should listen to this song.
10. Go - Blink 182 – Yup, another song from these guys. While it doesn't sound depressing musically, lyrically it tackles the domestic violence that Mark's mother suffered at the hands of his step-father. It's a pretty powerful song and Blink 182 should be applauded for it.
