FAMILY-RUN Hillstown Farm Shop is celebrating its first year in business, building on a highly successful first year in which they were crowned Northern Ireland Gourmet Pork Sausage champions.
With three generations of the Logan family involved in the business, Hillstown Farm Shop has the perfect pedigree for providing pure, simple and delicious products.
Situated on the Glebe Road, just outside Ahoghill, all beef, lamb and pork sold in the shop and has been born and raised on the Logan family's adjoining farm.
The beef is dry aged on the bone for a minimum of 21 days, producing beef which is tender and tasting just as beef should!
The chickens are brought in from neighbouring farms as day old chicks and allowed to grow on the farm to become free range chickens, and to provide free range eggs.
Rare Saddleback pigs provide the pork, with the breed renowned for producing pork which is tasty and succulent. The bacon is cured traditionally - using a well guarded combination of herbs and salts to produce the perfect dry-cured bacon and gammons which don't shrink when cooking.
With all the beef, pork and chicken reared on the Logans' farm, or on neighbouring farms, you can be certain of top quality tasty food with total traceability. And with winning the Northern Ireland Gourmet Pork Sausage competition - ahead of over 300 butcher shops - the taste and quality of the sausages speak for itself.
In addition to quality meat, Hillstown Farm Shop stocks a selection of fresh fruit and veg, bread, milk and home bakery items.
There's also a great selection of jams and chutneys that make a welcome compliment to your meat selection and the shop is now stocking a new range of home-made pies and sausage rolls.
For only being in business for a year, Hillstown have made their mark, both winning the sausage competition, and helping local schools, Gracehill Primary and Parkhall College, take part in the Northern Ireland heats of the Active Kids competition.
As a result of visiting Hillstown Farm Shop and using their fine produce, both schools won their heats.
The shop has also played host to visits from local nursery, primary and secondary schools, providing a great educational resource.
You can see what's on offer yourself by popping in, Tuesday to Saturday, from 9am to 5.30pm, with late night opening to 8pm on Thursdays.
And to celebrate their first anniversary, why not come along to Hillstown Farm Shop's open day on Saturday, August 2.
Come along between 10am and 4pm and try Hillstown's food for yourself. There will be food tasting throughout the day and an all-day barbecue. The kids won't feel left out either with a bouncy castle and slide and face painting, plus a chance to meet the animals including the farm's pedigree sheep and the rare breed Saddleback pigs.
