Jonny Steede from Galgorm will start his 160-mile, four day run today from Belfast to Dublin, taking one day's rest and then running the Dublin Maratho on Monday.
Jonny will be averaging 40 miles per day, passing through Lisburn,
Lurgan, Portadown, Banbridge, Newry, Drogheda and a whole host of smaller towns to collect donations for three charities, and once in Dublin there's the small matter of a marathon.

Not surprisingly Jonny will go into the record books with this mammoth challenge, which starts on October 22, launching at 10am at Northern Ireland Children's Hospice.

If you would like to make a donation to the event, you can do so online at www.justgiving.com/thelongrundown or by visiting the website www.thelongrundown.org
"It's just another challenge to me..." laughs the 28 year-old telecoms engineer. "But if you think it about it too much, then it's a bit scary." Such is the scale of the event, that details of the route and the exact mileage have yet to be finalised.

Jonny will be raising money for the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice, The Samaritans and The Sunshine Home by completing his run, which is being organised by his friend David Brown, also from Ballymena.
He said: "My brother asked me if I would consider doing this challenge for charity and I said OK. I have been putting in a lot of training over the last few months - I've been running about 80 to 100 miles per week.

"I started running about four years ago, and I would normally be a fells runner - which is mountain running basically - so running on roads is a bit different for me."

Despite his relatively short career in running, Jonny's CV is impressive with several mind-boggling runs under his belt including the 39-mile ultra-marathon in Connemara and the Fellsman run in the Yorkshire Dales - 62 miles - more than 18 hours running in one-day.

Known as the 'Longrundown', Jonny who is a member of the Ballymena Runners club will be accompanied by several cyclists and a support van which will cater for his vast needs of carbohydrates and fluids. "I'll probably be eating all sorts of stuff which wouldn't be that great for you, like chips, burgers, and lots of high calorie foods - so I suppose there are some good points.

"I have found with big challenges before, that it is difficult to sleep properly, as the body can't really unwind, but hopefully that'll not be too big a problem."

The run will take place from 22nd October, launching at 10am at Northern Ireland Children's Hospice, and finishing on 27th October 2008 with the Dublin marathon.

If you would like to make a donation to the event, you can do so online at www.justgiving.com/thelongrundown or by visiting the website www.thelongrundown.org.
