Gillespie: Sister Cities 'just a holiday'

THE 'Sister Cities' project with which Ballymena is involved is a waste of time and just an excuse for a free holiday.

That was the view expressed this week by Councillor Roy Gillespie when the issue was raised at the monthly meeting of Ballymena Borough Council.
DUP councillor Beth Adger asked why the Council was sending FIVE representatives to Kansas this year.
In response, Deputy Mayor, PJ McAvoy told her: "They are asking for as many people to come from Northern Ireland as possible this year because this conference is being held in Northern Ireland next year."
Cllr Gillespie said: "I don't see much benefit coming from this Sister Cities programme. We can't get money to get things done in our own borough yet it's being spent sending people to America.
"People are just looking at this as a way of getting their holidays, of getting away and having a good time to themselves."
He added: "I don't go."
