The three men were set upon as they left the home of Barry Gordon, whose home had been targeted last night.

Speaking to the Times shortly after the attack, which was captured by the BBC, Padraig McShane said:

"Myself and Daithi and a thrid communtiy worker were punched and attacked. We have a few cuts and bruises, nothing too serious.

"But obviously the trouble in Dunclug has become very serious, and a lot of people there feel very vulnerable now.

"We cannot sit back and let this get further out of control."
