BALLYMENA soprano Catrina Scullion has been steadily making a name for herself as a talented singer - and now she is to star in a concert in her home town.
Cartrina, from Dunclug Gardens, is one of four soloists who will take to the stage of 'The Braid' Town Hall on Friday, August 15.
Entitled 'Keep up the Classics' the concert is an evening of summer classics for all ages, something Catrina is keen to emphasise.
She said: "This is a very informal concert and a chance for everyone to come along and enjoy some favourites from musical theatre, like West Side Story and South Pacific, as well as opera. It's all about making classical music more accessible and opening it up to a wider audience.
"Having spent a lot of time away from Ballymena, it's great to be home again and to have the chance to sing on stage at the new town hall, which is a stunning venue.
"I used to Irish dancing at the Town Hall and it's just amazing to think I'm going to be singing on stage there. I can't wait."
Catrina, a past pupil of St Louis Grammar School and still only 26, has already clocked up an impressive CV, having recently returned from America where she toured with 'Celtic Woman'.
Prior to that Catrina had toured with Anuna, the spellbinding choral group directed by composer Michael McGlynn.
"That was an incredibly exciting and busy time," she said. "We were on tour throughout the UK, Germany, Holland and the USA."
A talented musician in her own right, Catrina opted to making singing her main priority.
"Singing is my first love and I felt I just had to put all I could into it," she said. "I'm really enjoying this latest concert tour because, moreso than performing in a chorus or group, it's a chance to express yourself.
"I really enjoy fiesty roles that give you a chance to act a bit - I suppose it's the diva in me!"
Catrina's fellow performers in 'Keep Up The Classics' include Bryan Hoey, tenor; Brendan MacQuaile, baritone and Marie Power, mezzo; with Vincent Lynch at the piano.
The stage show has already earned plaudits from appreciative audiences at Russborough House, Blessington; The Pavillion Theatre, DunLaoghaire, Civic Theatre, Tallaght and Bewleys Cafe Theatre.
It's great to have some homegrown talent performing live in the town so make sure you get your ticket early.
'KEEP Up The Classics' at The Braid Town Hall on Friday, August 15 at 7.30pm. Bookings now being taken on 028 256 35900. Tickets cost £14.50 and £12 with concession.
