Ahoghill retail development rejected

TEN reasons have been given by planners for refusing an application to create two single storey retail units adjacent to a filling station on Ahoghill's Galgorm Road.
The proposal by Galgorm Developments was turned down for, among other reasons, its potential to intensify the use of an existing access on to a Protected Route, inadequate sight line provision on its access to the Galgorm Road and because it does not constitute a development considered appropriate outside of the the development limits.
Speaking out on behalf of the applicant at last Thursday night's meeting between planners and councillors at Ardeevin, Councillor Joe McKernan sought deferral of a decision by the planners to allow time for further discussions to be held at an office meeting.
Planning representative, Ms Denise Kerr, said, however, that such a meeting would only be agreed to if the applicant was "willing to make changes" to the application and discuss the plans further with Roads Service.
Councillor McKernan observed that the proposal had attracted "a record number of refusals" but said the applicant was prepared to bring "additional information" to planners and Roads Service.
Responding, Ms Kerr said: "They have a lot of work to do".
