BALLYMENA United will embark upon the new season with a new deal from long-standing club sponsor McBurney Transport.
The local haulage firm has announced a three-year extension to its sponsorship, by which stage the Moorfields-based firm will have had its name emblazoned on the Sky Blues' shirts for an incredible 23 years.

United also launched their new kit for the 2008-9 campaign at the same function.

Managing Director Norman McBurney, a former United chairman, said that the company was delighted to continue a sponsorship deal which is arguably the longest standing current shirt sponsorship arrangement in senior British football.

"After discussions with the chairman, we have decided to extend our sponsorship by a further three years," Mr McBurney told Times Sport.

"We would be hoping that the club would win something with the new manager in place and the set-up that already exists at the Showgrounds, we would be hopeful that some success will come along.

"I have been very impressed in the limited dealings I've had with Roy and certainly I'm very impressed with what I have seen of him.

"We would be delighted if Ballymena won some trophies.

"There have been more than enough barren years and down sides to it so I think the next two or three years should hopefully bring some silverware to the Showgrounds," added Norman.

United chairman Robert Cupples could not hide his glee at the lucrative deal, which will add to the already healthy financial position of the club.

"I'm more than delighted. When you think Norman is now into his 21st year, with at least two more to come, I don't think there is anyone in any sport anywhere, not only in Ireland but in the world, that has stood up and worked with a club for so long.

"The loyalty that Norman and his family have shown over the years has been absolutely brilliant.

"No-one would deserve success more than Norman so it's up to the players on the field, and with a few additions, we should be up there," added Robert.
