WHY is it that no matter how long the school holidays are I always manage to leave things to the last minute?
My two's school seemed to have a longer summer holiday than the rest - they weren't back until the 6th of September.. so while other mums (presumably) spent the weekend getting the uniforms sorted, I was still in holiday mode.
But on Wednesday nig
ht, while everyone else was well and truly back in the swing of things, I was taking the labels off the new school trousers, skirts etc that I'd bought months ago. (I'd great intentions of being ultra organised this year.)
Did I have said new garments folded and hung up in the wardrobe? No. Had I forgotten about them and left them in the original carrier bag at the bottom of the wardrobe? Yes. Thank goodness for 'non iron' fabric. At least I didn't have to get the board out.
Anyone who has struggled from one end of the town to the other on a school morning knows that precious minutes count. Drive on to certain roads on the wrong side of 8.30 and you'd better hope you've got a good CD in the car because you'll listen to a fair few tracks before you get to and from the school gates.
Some children love getting back to school, others hate it. As a working mum, I fall somewhere in the middle.
At least when the children are back at school, childcare isn't a huge headache so that's good. But it's not just school that starts in September, it's all those extra curricular activities too.
Music lessons, football, dance, parties. Mum's taxi service is up and running and its sole employee is not happy. I'd just caught up with the soaps, I'd got in to the habit of having a little 'me time' in the evenings, of coming in the door from working knowing I was in for the night.
It was good while it lasted.
But would I have it any other way? Of course not.
