15-year-old Eileen Rooney from Carryduff, 14-year-old Loren Suttie from West Belfast and 16-year-old Chris Donnan from Lisburn were three local young people who took part in the project. The project began in June and will offer an opportunity for those involved to forge cross community friendships and learn filmmaking skills that can be transferred back into their communities. The young people had never met before the project but had a shared interest in the film industry and they have been tasked with the challenge of creating a short film in Belfast over the course of this week beginning with devising its concept to writing it, acting in it, and filming it. Prior to this week the young people participated in workshops under the guidance of a director, writer and director of photography who worked intensively with the young people each day. Following the filmmaking each person will return to their areas, equipped with new skills, where Cinemagic will act as a mentor in filmmaking, but the overall aim is that each community group develops a short film on their community by October 31. On the completion of the community films Cinemagic will host a special screening of all of the short films during the 21st Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People in Belfast City Hall in December.
